Welcome to The Book Breakup Club, the Spilled Ink and Coffee Show DNF challenge where we're officially giving ourselves permission to break up with books that aren't working.
Because let's be honest…
You don't owe a book a relationship just because you started it.
💔 THE CHALLENGE
During this challenge, DNF a book that isn't working for you and give that breakup the send-off it deserves.
🚀 1. Choose Your Breakup Method
Pick your signature DNF style and log it in your physical book journal:
Ejected to the Airlock (Kasie’s Style): For the books that need immediate spacing. Draw a rocket or portal in your journal, launch the book straight into orbit, clear the launchpad, and don't look back.Hauled Away (Rachel’s Style): For the breakups that require heavy machinery. Draw a pickup or freight truck in your journal spread, load that book up, and drive it straight out of town.
💌 2. Write Your Breakup Letter (In Your Journal & Online HERE)
Keep it short (1–3 sentences) and explicitly state which method you used!
Dear [Book Title],
I really wanted us to work out, but somewhere along the way I realized I was forcing it. You've officially been [Ejected to the Airlock / Hauled Away]. It’s not me… okay, it’s definitely you. Wishing you the best with your next reader!
📚 3. Track Your DNF
Track the book on StoryGraph and record in your physical journal how far you made it—pages or percentage.
